Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition and diet play a major role in managing chronic kidney disease. As your kidney function declines, dietary changes can help slow the progression of kidney damage. Renal Specialists of Houston offers small group dietary education sessions. Classes are taught by a registered dietitian who specializes in kidney disease. For more information, contact our Museum District office at 713-528-8111.

For more information about nutrition, please go to Patient Education Materials listed under the "Patient Information" tab.

Kidney Transplantation

A kidney transplant is the preferred treatment for end stage renal disease (ESRD). Our nephrologists are part of an excellent transplant team at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. We are involved in your care every step of the way.

It is important to know that not everyone is eligible for a kidney transplant. Eligibility is determined by a team of professionals involved in the transplant program. Many appointments and tests are required to determine if kidney transplant is right for you. The pre-transplant evaluation includes a physical exam, complete medical and surgical history, chest x-ray, EKG, echocardiogram, blood typing, GI tract and lung testing and tissue typing. Other procedures will be requested, as needed. You will also meet with members of the transplant team, including the transplant surgeon, transplant coordinator, social worker, psychologist and pharmacist.

What should I do if I am interested in a kidney transplant?
It is important to speak to one of our nephrologists if you are interested in kidney transplant. We will refer you to the transplant program as soon as possible.

Renal Specialists of Houston is proud to serve as the primary Nephrology providers for the Cooley Transplant Center at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital.
